C’est magnifique, mais ce n’est pas la guerre

With the conventions behind us, it seems as if the actual campaign will finally start.  I am looking forward to the debates, an opportunity to see the candidates head-to-head.  It should be interesting to see how they do when facing each other on the same stage.  Will McCain’s temper get to him and cause him to come across as a mean old man?  Will Obama be able to maintain his image as eloquent and articulate if he stumbles and trips over his words while trying to find the “safe” words to a direct question?

I was hopeful that Obama would take up McCain’s offer to do weekly town-hall style debates.  In my opinion, it is worrisome when a candidate tries to minimize his appearances with the other candidate.  How do you feel about the upcoming debates?  Would you like to see more, or are you already sick of the campaign and just want the election to be over?

I’m kind of looking forward to the debates and not just the Prez ones, but the VP ones as well. On the other hand, I am a bit sick of it all already!

I think that weekly debates would be a cool idea… they both keep saying the other hasn’t offered a detailed plan. I’m tired of electing people based on sound bite media!

  3. I have always loved watching the presidential debates but this go-round I am even more excited to see them - especially between Palin and Biden.

I would like to see at least two debates by the Prez and VP candidates before the election. I don’t want to see more debates than that, but I would like to see them of a good duration so I can get a feel for the candidates plans, etc.

  5. I would love to see a large number of debates, focused specifically on issues that matter to the American people.

Unfortunately, based on the debates during the primaries, I don’t believe that with the media as it exists today, it is possible to get that.

Instead, we are likely to see large companies who make their money off of entertaining people trying to pass off people yelling at one another, whether they be candidates or pundits as being somehow informative or entertaining.

Unfortunately, based on the debates during the primaries, I doubt the Presidential or Vice Presidential debates would be either informative or entertaining.
